SoCal Report: SXSW Style – Saint Motel

Check Into Saint Motel

It’s hard work and a heavy responsibility being indie-rock darlings in a town as overrun with potential indie-rock darling candidates like Los Angeles, but Saint Motel takes full and deserved ownership of the title. Take a bunch of film students, give them musical instruments, unleash creativity, and look out. It’s power pop with irresistible and intelligent hooks, it’s theatrically crafted melodies and guitar riffs, it’s the sensory stimulation of marrying audio with visuals, and the band fucking rocks. Hosts of LA’s own annual Zombie Prom three years running (Valentine’s Day party for the undead, you say? Of course.), AJ Jackson (vocals, guitar), Aaron Sharp (lead guitar), Greg Erwin (drums), and Dak Lerdamornpong (bass) deliver a live show that only the dead (highly medicated, musically neutered, etc.) could stand still through.

This SXSW-bound fantastic foursome just released their latest danceable deadly “Puzzle Pieces” and it’s annoyingly awesome. I’ve heard it live a few times and, yeah, the feet and hips tend to have a life of their own.

If you’re in Austin, TX for the party, here’s a bit of  their schedule where and when you can catch these gents out for one hell of a musical experience.

Mar 16 – Lustre Pearl @ 2:00 PM
Mar 16 – Lipstick 24 (w/ Neon Trees) @ 7:00 PM
Mar 18 – Annie’sWest (w/ She Wants Revenge) Austin, Texas @ 7:00 PM
Mar 19 – (SXSW Official Showcase) Emo’s Main Stage (w/ Neon Trees,Limousines) @ 7:30 PM
