HEAR THIS: Shields

From the first moment we heard this British five-piece’s new single “Mezzanine,” we’d completely fallen in love with them. Of course, this affection may have been slightly influenced by the absolute brilliance of the accompanying music video.
Two words – sock puppets!

Oh, the song itself is fantastic too… and a brilliant example of the catchy beat-laden synth-pop sound that Shields exemplifies. Like an (more cheerful) Everything Everything with elements of SBTRKT, this band has created a unique and totally addictive sound. The Newcastle group have spent the last year or so non-stop touring and gigging (we also spotted them at a Sofar Sounds in London recently), and they aren’t looking set to stop soon. Keep an eye out for them and listen to their new EP, Kaleidoscope, out now.
