HEAR THIS: Porches

Porches lives the life of the lost souls in movies like American Beauty. While such a movie dances around the loveliness of a drifting plastic bag, this NYC band hovers by their pool watching the dirty leaves in it act like humans dealing with people problems. The electro-chill sounds in Pool create an atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of the 9-to-5 work day, even though vocalist Aaron Maine can’t fully avoid it. Keyboards hit on the unreality of life in “Be Apart,” and “Hour” sees isolation in bare twin beds. The elegance of Greta Kline’s vocals add to the grace that Maine grapples with well (“Underwater”). Porches do their best to hold on to something when loneliness feels like all they have.
