HEAR THIS: Magic Carpet Factory

Among all the great English traditions (a parliamentary system of government, eating

beans for breakfast, imperialism, etc.) angsty alt-rock is by far the best.

Magic Carpet Factory keeps that tradition alive and in the vein of predecessors such as Blur and Kasabian on their debut EP Feel the Magic. The release is five tracks full of thick bass grooves (“Feel the Magic”), scuzzy guitar riffs (“Twisted Dream”), airtight backbeats (“Control”), and glam-rock swagger (“State Of Mind”). It’s not magic that gives this band a spark; just solid musicianship and strong songwriting.
