Treefort Music Fest 2018 Day 2 + 3
Treefort Music Fest: a little festival in the unlikely location of Boise, ID that’s actually a really huge festival with upwards of 500 bands spread out over 30 venues throughout downtown Boise. Artists all over the world are represented, from Boise locals to a slew of Canadian groups to Pussy Riot from Moscow, Russia. It’s also known as the biggest festival of Portland music despite not even being in Oregon.
I’ve wanted to go to Treefort for the past four years, and finally things fell into place. So many of the local artists I love in the bay area, Portland, and Seattle play year after year, so it’s like a convention to see old friends and meet new ones.
For being such a massive operation, Treefort Fest runs incredibly smoothly. Most of the sets I caught started and ended at the advertised time, which is so important when you’re running from place to place. Most venues are within a block or two of each other, but their lineups are curated so it’s just as easy to pick one and stay there all night. There are activities like storytelling, yoga, and lectures during the daytime, as well as a dozen unofficial shows where it’s possible to see that band you really want to see but their official set conflicts with something else.
Treefort really has everything.
