August 01. 2012 | By Bryan Wallace

The second day for Catalpa was made up of Kim Schifino dancing to Diplo’s “Express Yourself,” a blown up Zebra being pushed around for Girl Talk, and Snoop Dogg performing Doggy Style in full. Read up on the day’s performances and check out the top three Famous Fans to come!

Cold War Kids
People flocked from Dirty Heads early for two reasons. Number one being that they played “Stand Tall” in the middle of their set (featured in that penguin-surfing movie) and the second reason because Cold War Kids were coming on the main stage. The Long Beachers stuck it to the East Coast crowd by performing through the downpour, which is surprising considering they are from SoCal.

Matt and Kim
According to Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino, this set was made up of a lot of firsts. FIRST #1: This was their first show of 2012. FIRST #2: They played their new single “Let’s Go” for the first time. FIRST #3: They had to play “Daylight” twice because Kim hit Matt’s keyboard halfway through the song. In regards to the last first, Kim said “I get crazy with the sticks and I just have to hit shit.”

Girl Talk
Seeing Greg Gillis live is funny considering he draws the most crowd energy, but does the least in regards to musicianship. Girl Talk’s performance is all in the props and the people’s energy in response to his mixes. Regardless of how Gillis went about it, the audience was surely following the command of the banner that hung over the main stage. It read “Dance Bitches!”

Snoop Dogg
New York City is known for its diversity. It would then make sense that The Black Keys would close out the first night and one of the biggest acts in hip-hop would close out the second night. Snoop-a-Loop performed the entire masterpiece of Doggy Style. In Snoop style, so much marijuana smoke filled the air that it could have been mistaken for a fog machine. The only glaring negative aspect of his performance was how drunk the crowd was at that point. Give a big thank you to Magic Hat giving away free cans of #9! But seriously, thank you Magic Hat for the free cans of #9.
