Idiosyncratic is the word that jumps to mind when you hear that a band hails from Athens, GA. Giving birth to entities as disparate as the B-52’s, REM, and the mighty Pylon, the college town has certainly fought above its musical weight class, and its most recent contribution to our ears is the quartet Mothers.

Since its February release, When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired has been a Nest staple. “Too Small For Eyes,” the first single sets a meandering evocative tone, then with second cut, “It Hurts Until It Doesn’t,” the band kicks in, and you get the full scope of their range. It’s a journey worth taking, and their dynamic live shows throw the songs into even starker relief.

Don’t miss a chance to catch Mothers live with Band Of Skulls. California dates are: 9/21 at the Fillmore, San Francisco, 9/23 at the Wiltern, Los Angeles, and 9/24 at the Casbah, San Diego.
