HEAR THIS: IRMA

August 31. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

Since we last crossed paths with one of our Bay Area live favorites Sirena Victima at the Rickshaw Stop last summer, it’s safe to say that they haven’t stood still. Now a quartet and operating under the name Irma, they have a freshly released LP, Room 34.

Following in the lineage of Bay Area legends Grass Widow, Irma has staked out their own post-punk patch, from the hazy ‘gaze of “My Fault” to the more straightforward attack of “Popcorn” and “Discussed”. “Blue” closes out the LP on a longing note. Catch Irma live at the Balboa Theater, SF on a Sunday 9/1 as part of an amazing lineup, starting at 4pm.
