HEAR THIS: Dangerous Ponies

July 06. 2011 | By April

Philly darlings Dangerous Ponies bring a mix of folksy indie rock a la She & Him and Apples In Stereo-style chamber pop to their debut self-titled album. Composed of seven queer and allied musicians, the band is a happy-go-lucky breath of fresh air to the indie rock genre. “Bumbershoot” is a quirky ode to pop culture and rainy days, evoking She & Him’s “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” while “I’ve Been Going About This Wrong” showcases the male vocalists of the band in a Vampire Weekend-esque lament, guitars blaring happily through the melody. Dangerous Ponies are a band that combines the best parts of each upbeat indie genre with a slight twist. With songs like “What the World Could Be”, there’s almost no way to be unhappy listening to them. Clearly, the world would be pretty awesome if it heard more from them.
