HEAR THIS: Bern & the Brights

There’s something radioactive when it comes to the idea of a perfectly pink sky. Does it burn the eyes? Will it be sweet like pink lemonade? Well, if New Jersey’s Bern & the Brights had a hue to it, at least with their Heart Wide Open EP, it’d be a bubblegum-colored mist packed to the brim with CHVRCHES electropop thunder and the lyrical styling of Sara Bareilles. “Beautiful Morning” twinkles with the light of its titular time, dazzling through curtains as listeners feel the smooth breeze that will become the eventually orchestral “Keep Yourself Together.” ’70s piano with dreamy electronics and distortion make “Get Along” a ship drifting to a lovely end. This is the sound of a heart expanding with love–or dream pop.
