PICTURE THIS: Wolf Larsen @ Swedish American Hall, SF 3/31/12

It was a dark and stormy night. Actually, it was. We had nasty storm blow through San Francisco the night of Wolf Larsen‘s CD release party, but that didn’t stop the crowd from filling up the Swedish American Hall for a night of “wolf” music.

With the audience settled in and candles framing the stage. Wolf & Crow (Zachary Vieira and Mathieu Stemmelen) started out the night with a set of folk music. With Zachary playing some sweet slide guitar, Wolf & Crow set the mood for a night of quiet, contemplative music. Wolf & Crow are in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign to get their first full CD recorded and out to the masses.

Wolf Larsen’s album, Quiet At The Kitchen Door, begins with a bit of poetry. It seemed entirely appropriate to have the author of said poetry, Larsen Bowker (also Wolf’s cousin) begin Wolf Larsen’s set. Megan Keely and Kelly McFarling, two excellent singers in their own right, join Wolf on stage and complement her voice with some beautiful harmonies. Add in a string section and “If I Be Wrong” comes alive as a quiet story about the uncertainties of any relationship. The one exception of the night was the song “Wild Things,” which had the audience howling along to fill in for the missing kids from the CD.
