These days, Montreal seems to be at the epicenter of a burgeoning music

scene and Valleys, comprised of Matilda Perks and Marc St. Louis, are yet another band to keep both ears on. The single “Undream A Year,” off the upcoming album Are You Going to Stand There and Talk Weird All Night? strikes a balance between shoegaze and synth-pop, layering feedback-filled guitars with wavering synthesizers that create a darkened and ethereal atmosphere as St. Louis’ smooth croons mix appropriately with the instrumentation. Some bands that attempt to mend two reverb-dependent genres typically result in something repetitive, muddy, and disjointed. But Valleys avoids such faults and manages to create an otherworldly, mellow, and highly enjoyable listening experience.
