FROM THE TECH NEST: Spotify Launches Free Mobile Radio for US iPhone and iPad Users

June 21. 2012 | By Collin Welbon

Earlier this week, Spotify unveiled an upgrade to their current iOS app which offers its radio streaming service to Free and Premium users. Previously, Spotify was only accessible via mobile device with the Premium (paid) service, but now everyone in the US who uses an iPhone or iPad and downloads the upgraded Spotify mobile app can gain access to an unlimited amount of music while on the move. Free Spotify users will have to listen to ad-supported radio, which is similar to services such as Pandora or Slacker, while Premium users will get an ad-free experience.

This new radio streaming feature is currently only available for Apple (iPhone and iPad) products and can be downloaded at the App Store. For our readers outside the US, the Spotify radio streaming service is available to Premium users worldwide.

Check out the list of the features that are now available to Spotify users on iPhone and iPad:
-Create limitless streaming radio stations from single songs, playlists, albums, or artists.
-Create an unlimited number of stations and listen as long as they like.
-Save tracks to Spotify playlists — any song that users “like” will be saved, so they can find the songs later.
-Personalize stations in real time by “liking” tracks to hear similar music.
-Browse friends’ playlists and create radio stations based on their tastes.
-Hear great new songs from Spotify’s state-of-the-art recommendation engine, based on what millions of real people are listening to.
-Access a catalog of over 16 million tracks.
