ALBUM REVIEW: “The Lady Killer” Cee Lo Green
Cee Lo Green
The Lady Killer
[Elektra Records]
The first time I heard the funky-soulful sounds of Cee Lo Green was when I discovered Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy.” That song alone took me to a different era, one very reminiscent of ’60s soul/Motown music.
Cee Lo Green’s debut solo album The Lady Killer captures that same vibe with plenty of twists and turns. Cee Lo’s own blend of modern soul, R&B and pop dance beats fuel this album from start to finish. Songs like “Love Gun” (featuring Lauren Bennett of Paradiso Girls), “Fool For You” (featuring Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire) and “No One’s Gonna Love You” boast a variety of harmonies and rhythms that really stick to the ribs. You know — it’s filling!
Let’s not forget the hilarious ode to the gold digger ex and her new beau in “Fuck You.” How can you go wrong with this new tantalizing genre called “ho wop”? It might not be wise to fall in love with a gold digger, but you will fall in love with The Lady Killer. “Fuck you! Oo, oo, ooo!”
