HEAR THIS: Jens Lekman

September 28. 2011 | By Justine Fields

The Swede endowed with the dreamiest deep voice, Jens Lekman, is back with a 5-song EP that kicks off with a Raffi-for-adults vibe. The first and title track, “An Argument with Myself,” has tropical upbeat music matched with verbal insanity:

“Alright, yes, can we just figure this out? Can we just talk about this, please?”
“Nah, I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Okay. You want to keep fighting?”
“Yeah… I want to keep on fighting.”
“Alright. Fair enough.”

His arguments with himself are odd, hilarious, and clever. Yet despite Lekman’s lyrical frivolity, he comes across as jarringly relatable because his voice is so endearing. This voice also takes the listener in many different directions with the rest of the tracks on this EP, which you should absolutely stream over at New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.
