PICTURE THIS: Band of Skulls @ Fillmore, SF 4/12/12

April 20. 2012 | By Mike

The Fillmore hosted the Southampton alternative rockers on an epic stormy night of lightning, both outside and on stage.

Band of Skulls opened with “Sweet Sour,” setting the tone for a evening of thumping rock ‘n roll with a mix of tracks from their first album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, and the newer, Sweet Sour.

Emma Richardson chugged out the bass lines, but for “Lies” we saw her playing the wine bottle, while Russell Marsden layered riffs and arrays of effects pedals, channeling a little bit of Jimmy and Stevie Ray. Matt Hayward kept it steady, pounding the skins like a madman, hair flying.
