Holidaydream: Sounds of the Holidays Vol. 1
[Good Records Recordings, Kirtland Records]

Tis’ the season for some Poly. Fa la la la la, la la la la! The Polyphonic Spree have geared you with an alternative to your tweeny-bopper sister’s Under the Mistletoe by Justin Bieber (not to hate on the Bieb, the kid knows how to get you in the
spirit). The Spree took a detour down new-album lane, and released Holidaydream, a collection of timeless holiday classics.

Setting aside a botched attempt of capturing John & Yoko’s “Happy Xmas (War is Over),” Tim DeLaughter and his collective
supply a festive account of everyone’s favorite consumer-laden season. The Polyphonic Spree are renowned for their psychedelic and innovative pop. Considering this reputation, one would think covering traditional holiday songs would result in hallucinogenic versions of the songs you grew up listening to while dipping winter-themed Oreos in milk.

Proving all of us wrong, DeLaughter predominantly stayed on the paved road without taking the beaten path (at least too much, “Silver Bells” and “Do You Hear What I Hear” are a trip). The Spree will be performing these renditions on the road, see if your city is hosting here.
