TRACKS OF THE WEEK – 2/7/19 Edition

February 07. 2019 | By Wayne Jessup

This time out on Tracks of the Week, we start with a brand new single from Rosie Tucker (Gypsum) from her March 8, 2019 release Never Not Never Not Never Not on New Professor. “Gay Bar” veers from an effortless indie jam into transcendent anthem. LA trio Potty Mouth is back with a new LP SNAFU, due out on March 1, 2019 on their own Get Better Records, and “22” is an assured and snappy preview of what’s to come. An entrancing guitar intro sets up “Eden,” marking the most welcome return of Leggy (Cincinnati). Their upcoming LP Let Me Know Your Moon, is out March 8, 2019 on Sheer Luck Records domestically and Damnably in the UK/EU.

Harkin is none other than Katie Harkin (Sky Larkin) and eagle-eyed observers will note her touring service in Sleater Kinney, Waxahatchee, and Courtney Barnett. Her opening solo salvo kicks off with a slow burning stunner (“Mist On Glass”), backed with “Independence Day,” where coruscating post-punk guitar leads the way. Salt Lake City’s Sally Yoo (Chalk) makes her move with the Tender EP, moving across moods, with the title track conjuring up a halting groove that unfolds into an unexpected gem.
