This Is Me, the debut album from vocalist/songwriter/composer Monica Marquis is a solid production of the singer’s contemporary jazz sound and coffee shop sensibilities. Obviously influenced by a wide variety of world cultures, but most heavily by the acoustic strings and horns of Brazilian jazz along with a modern Caribbean sound, these arrangements serve as an intriguing vehicle for the singer’s magnetic vocals.

But as diverse as Marquis’ songs are on this record, they retain a pop accessibility that should keep a broad audience coming back for more. This Is Me is a lyrically honest and aesthetically polished collection of work…a solid debut from a promising artist.

The first concert I remember is Tiffany at the Concord Pavilion. Seriously.
