HEAR THIS: Qiet

Qiet 2

Bands like West Virginia’s Qiet are hard to pin down with anything as ordinary as, say, a description. This is because they manage to pull together pretty much every genre out there – jazz, indie pop, rock, punk, street-music, soul, you-name-it – in a baffling blend that really shouldn’t work, but does. It’s visionary, but not in a way that too weird to enjoyably listen to.

It’s music that is intelligent and not afraid to admit to it. Every song is an item to itself, from the elegant but savage jazz of six-and-a-half minute epic “Come one, Come All” to the Arcade Fire-esque art-rock of the aptly named “The Indie Song.” Qiet might not be to everyone’s taste, but we found them a breath of fresh air.
